20120422-102738.jpg

Day two of the festival starts in a few hours, and we expect bigger crowds than yesterday. Some new Rums are hitting the market in a couple of months. But first of all you can come and try the old stand-by favorites. The House of Bacardi as usual puts on a great exhibition of some of their new flavor offering and the new Bacardi Oakheart Spiced Rum. Ultra Premium Rums as Dos Maderas and Zacapa are also on hand to pleasure your palate. Some new Boutique Rums are also here as Samaroli shows a few examples of hand selected spirits from special and exotic locals as far away as Fiji, and some island very close to our own shores.

Come on by our booth for some special show pricing and also scratch off a ticket and win a prize. We already awarded a bottle of Dos Maderas P/X to one lucky winner.

Good Luck and have a good time at the show.

Now, if you have never been to a Rum Renaissance event let me tell you what you are missing. First of all are the Rums, you will taste Great Rums from all over the World. Everything under the Sun is here. Appleton, Atlantico, Bacardi, Brugal, Botran, Barbancourt, and many, many, more. Just go down the alphabet and pick a Rum.

You will also see a few Rums not sold in the states, YET. Dictator from Colombia, Dzama from Madagascar, and a new one from Miami, Miami Club Rum will be making and appearance at the festival.

Just take your time and enjoy the scenery at the beautiful Deauville Hotel and look over what the World of Rum is bringing to the market.

A word of advice, Drink water. You don’t want to get hammered and forget what everything tasted like. The Grand Tasting Event is a two-day event, so buy your tickets and split it up.

If you are going to the event stop by our booth, we will have show specials on all the Rums at the event and will be giving away prizes.

Most importantly is have a good time.

Kraken

Kraken

Overall Packaging Coolness: High. 750 ml bottle with small jug-style ring handles on the neck. Label has an old-school illustration of a giant, bug-eyed octopus crushing a ship- pretty hardcore. It’s evocative of something you’d see on the shelf of a 19th-century waterfront tavern…in a movie. The only thing this needs is a wax seal or palm leaf wrapping to put it over the top.

Proof: 94

Spice-itude: Medium. Enough sweet- & spiciness to enjoy sipping on its own, but it’s got a nice burn that keeps it from going into candyland.

Coke Compatibility: Medium/High. Meshes almost too well. The overall flavors are extremely complementary, and if it were a lower proof, it would probably not punch through.

Flamboyant Badass Quotient: Medium/High. “Kraken Black Spiced Rum” sounds Flamboyantly Badass to be sure, and the fact that this stuff is nearly opaque gives it some intimidation factor.

Another Round Likelihood: High

Overall Assessment: Nice. Tastes like rum, and may be the only one so far that works better on its own than mixed.
